Ryzen 7 8700G: 8 Cores at 5GHz, 6 CU Radeon 780M at 2.9GHz

The test bench features an ASUS TUF GAMING X670E PLUS WiFI motherboard paired with the Ryzen 7 8700G. The CPU hosts 8 cores / 16 threads using the Zen4 architecture. Using such a configuration, it yields 8MB of L2 cache and 16MB of L3 cache. The CPU ran comfortably at a clock speed of 5.08GHz and was paired with 32GB of rather slow DDR5-4800 memory. Do note that the results we saw a day prior were based on a system with DDR5-6000 memory. Since iGPUs use main memory as an equivalent for VRAM, faster memory drastically improves performance, especially on APUs like the 8700G. The Radeon 780M here is equipped with a largely cut-down 6 CU configuration, running at 2.9GHz. Regarding performance, the Ryzen 7 8700G outputs 35427 points and 29244 points in Vulkan and OpenCL respectively. That by itself is already 15-20% higher than the 8600G, and will improve with faster RAM. The graph below demonstrates that the Radeon 780M easily beats out the GTX 1060 6GB in Vulkan. Moreover, with capable memory kits, one can expect even after performance, comparable to the likes of the GTX 1650 / RX 6400. OpenCL sees the Radeon 780M lose out to even the GTX 1060 3GB. This result was seen with the 8600G as well yesterday, so it may vary from API to API. Nonetheless, our point stands valid as faster memory can easily push the 780M past the 30k barrier.

Release Date

As per previous rumors, Team Red will launch the Ryzen 7 8700G, Ryzen 5 8600G and the Ryzen 3 8500G on 31st January. AM4 will also see some new launches with the Ryzen 7 5700X3D and a new ‘GT‘ series. January is jam-packed for AMD enthusiasts, since we are expected to see a new release from Radeon as well. It has been alleged that AMD will unleash a new Radeon RX 7600 XT with 16GB of VRAM in just a few weeks. Source: Geekbench (Vulkan, OpenCL)
