The Steam UI update didn’t just change the menu, downloads, and store sections—it also made major updates to the in-game overlay. This has been especially frustrating for long-time Steam users who have gotten used to the previous layout. If you would like to switch back to the old Steam UI but still want to receive future updates, this guide is here to help. Just follow the steps below to restore the previous Steam interface. Before you start, make sure Steam and all its background processes are completely closed. To bring back the old Steam UI, you’ll need to add a launch parameter to the Steam shortcut on your desktop or Start Menu. Launch parameters let you start programs with customized settings. In this case, we’ll be adding -vgui to the shortcut’s target field. This tells Steam to load the older interface when you open it.
