In the background, this feature creates a reparse point in the device that directs to the actual file on the OneDrive. So, when you make changes to the file, like deleting or editing it on your device, the computer becomes unsure about whether it needs to make a change to the shortcut reparse point or the actual file in OneDrive. This confusion leads to error code 0x80071129 with the message, The tag present in the reparse point buffer is invalid. Before we proceed to the solutions, it’s recommended that you restart your computer and retry. If the issue is ongoing, the following solutions will help solve it.

1. Remove the File from OneDrive

The first step to resolve the error message is to remove the file causing the problem. Simply log into OneDrive, pause the sync for 2 hours, and then remove the file. After completing this, restart your computer, and the problem should be solved. Now, you can continue the Sync once the problem is solved. You can follow the same steps if you wish to edit the file.

2. Execute the CHDSK Command

When you enable the Files On-Demand feature, it creates reparse points for the synced files and folders. When you disconnect the OneDrive or stop syncing the library, OneDrive removes all the reparse points. However, some reparse points might not be removed and become invalid, resulting in OneDrive returning this error message. So, we will use the CHDSK command to remove all the invalid reparse points.

3. Reset the OneDrive

If the error is ongoing, try resetting the OneDrive to remove the application and cache data that might get corrupted and cause this problem.

4. Install the OneDrive again

Lastly, if nothing helps solve the problem, you can try reinstalling the OneDrive to check if there are any corrupted files causing this problem.
