There are instances where the controller starts to blink blue but will still work, while in other cases, the controller stops working. In some cases, the controller switches off after flashing blue for some time. Before starting the troubleshooting process,
Connect the PS5 console directly without a surge protector or extension cable to a new power source.Unplug any other devices such as any USB dongle from the console and restart it.
1. Restart the PS Console
The PS5 controller will keep on blinking blue if it is failing to sync with the console. This might have occurred if the input modules of the console are in an error state. Restarting the PS console will solve the problem as it will reinitialize all the modules.
Put in the Rest Mode
Force Restart the PS5
Perform a Cold Restart of the PS5
Boot the PS5 into the Safe Mode
2. Update the Firmware of the Controller and Console
A PS5 console or controller with outdated firmware will not be compatible with its counterpart and thus can cause issues. Moreover, a bug can also cause the blue blinking on the controller. In both cases, updating the firmware of the console and controller will solve the problem.
Update PS5 Console
Update Controller
3. Re-add the Controller to the PS5 Console
The PS5 controller will blink blue due to a syncing problem between the console and the controller. This might have occurred due to the controller’s wrong profile in the PS5 settings. In such a case, re-adding the controller to the PS5 console will solve the problem. You will need another controller to complete these steps or use the PS Remote Play app.
4. Change the Router Band
If the router is using a band that is interfering with the controller’s signals, the controller will fail to sync with the console and thus will blink blue. Here, changing the router’s band will solve the problem.
5. Reset the Controller and PS5 Console to the Factory Defaults
You will face a blinking blue PS5 controller if the firmware of the controller or console is no more valid. This can make the console and controller incompatible with each other. To solve this, reset the controller and PS5 console to the factory defaults.
Reset the Controller
Reset the Console or Reinstall its System Software
In some cases, you may need to boot the console in the safe mode to complete the steps below.
Reset to Default Settings
Reset Console
Reinstall the System Software on the PS5 Console
If none of the above worked, you may contact Sony Support and get the controller or console checked for a hardware error. If under warranty, you may claim a replacement for the faulty device.
