With the Blink Sync Module, monitoring your home or any other location remotely becomes simple. The system lets you get motion alerts and review video recordings directly from your app, giving you extra security and peace of mind. However, if the sync module goes offline, these features won’t work until the connection is restored. Before you start troubleshooting, make sure:

Your internet connection is working.Blink servers are online; check their status.

If both your internet and the Blink servers are working, try the solutions below.

1. Restart the Sync Module and Router

If the Sync Module is unable to communicate properly with your router, it can go offline. This often happens due to temporary errors. Restarting both the Sync Module and the router usually solves the issue.

1.1. Restart the Router

1.2. Restart the Sync Module

If you travel often, consider using a smart plug to control power to your router and Sync Module. This makes rebooting them remotely quick and easy. Also, Blink Support can sometimes remotely restart your Sync Module if you’re not at home.

2. Try Another Power Source

Insufficient power from the outlet or a faulty power cable can make the Sync Module turn on and off, causing it to go offline. Sometimes, even after power is restored, these devices have trouble reconnecting unless the router is restarted. You can solve this by using another power source or a different cable.

3. Disconnect Devices from the Network

If another device on your network is malfunctioning or causing interference, it can cut off the Sync Module’s connection. This might cause the Wi-Fi to slow down or the Sync Module to go offline altogether. Disconnecting such devices often solves the issue. Echo Dots, for example, are known to sometimes cause these problems.

4. Disable Mobile Data on the Phone

Sometimes, when adding the Sync Module to the Blink app, your phone may switch to mobile data if your Wi-Fi signal is weak. This can break the setup process and cause the module to appear offline. Turning off your phone’s mobile data to force it to use Wi-Fi can solve the problem.

On iPhones and iPads, the Blink app needs permission to use your local network. If this isn’t enabled, the app can’t communicate with the Sync Module, which makes the module appear offline.

6. Enable 2.4 GHz Band on the Router

For the most reliable connection, the Blink Sync Module should use the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band. Many smart devices—including Blink products—don’t work well with 5 GHz networks, which can cause them to show as offline.

If your Blink app’s settings no longer match your Sync Module—maybe after a network change—the app might show the module as offline. Removing and then re-adding the Sync Module to the app can refresh these settings.

8. Rename SSID or Enable Guest Wi-Fi

If your Sync Module’s saved Wi-Fi settings are incorrect or outdated, it won’t connect properly. Changing your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) or using the Guest Wi-Fi feature on your router can force the module to reconnect with fresh settings.

8.1. Rename SSID

8.2. Enable Guest Wi-Fi

9. Reset the Router and Sync Module

A damaged or corrupted firmware on either your router or the Sync Module can prevent a good connection. Resetting both devices to their factory settings usually clears up such problems.

9.1. Reset the Router

Before you reset, make sure you have your Wi-Fi name (SSID), password, and any special settings written down, as you’ll need these to set up your router again.

9.2. Reset the Sync Module

Resetting the Sync Module will erase any data on a connected USB drive, so back up anything important first.
